Friday, June 21, 5-11 pm
Come and celebrate the kick-off of summer Decatur-style at The Decatur Beach Party on Friday, June 21 from 5 to 11 pm in downtown Decatur. This is truly where the beach meets the street with pop-up performances, a DJ, live music, a sandy “beach,” and more. Best of all, admission is FREE.
Gather up those sand toys and come ready to play because this year there will be even more beach than before, with 80 tons sand hitting Ponce De Leon Avenue. Kids’ activities will line the boardwalk area, including a toddler play area, and big kid fun with a rock climbing wall, dunk tank, and more. The kids area will be open 5 to 9 pm.
The food court will include food trucks, boardwalk fare, frozen treats, and a selection of local Decatur craft beers. Wine, soft drinks and water will also be available for purchase. All of the restaurants will be open for business and many will be serving special Beach Party menu items.
DJ Quasi Mandisco kicks off the evening on the plaza so come ready to dance! He will start his set at 5 pm, and hang with us throughout the evening. Local favorites the Old Fourth Ward Boogie Band continues the party into the night starting at 7:30.
Thanks to our generous sponsors, admission is free and the event has been expanded. There will be small fees for the larger kids activities such as bounce houses, rock wall, dunk tank, etc, as well as souvenirs and caricatures. All proceeds go to the Decatur Business Association to help keep this event, May and September concerts, Santa on the Square, the annual Easter Egg Hunt, and many others throughout the year, free to the community.
